Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1987, Chien, Yu-Jen graduated with a master's degree from the Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University and is currently studying in a doctoral program. CHIEN pondered the relationship between himself and the landscape for a long time, and tried to re-comprehend the significance of the nature to modern people through painting from a humanistic perspective. He depicts through his self-portrait and body image, and combines flowers, birds, animals and the Taiwan’s landscapes to create a paradoxical utopia. Through the reflexivity of the naked figure and panoramic gaze, CHIEN responds to the nature and human phenomena.
In the early days, painting was a medium to show the wandering state of his body in the space. In recent years, he tried to use installation and ready-made components to think about the alienation of people and the dissimilation of the land after modernization.
