Born in Taipei in 1984, Taiwan, graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of National Taiwan Normal University with the Ph.D in Ink Painting.
Chien, Chih-Kang’s creation always focuses on the life’s concern and the meaning of existence. Through the artworks, he would like to convey not only cheerful and abstract thoughts to the viewers, but also to find the method to relieve these pains and confusions through the movement of creation itself. Art for him is not just feeling, bursting, but also a spiritual practice, a kind of tempering test that forces himself to face deep anxiety and fear, and gives himself a detachment through art, making himself more perfect and being at ease.
From the traditional oriental ink aesthetics, including the series of time-lined sketches of the elders' faces in a linear brushstroke; the dry-squeaking method to depict the wanderer's vagrant series; the combination of ink and rice paper to paste and shape into animal look, until the present stage, the combination of white-composed beauty with ink rhyme and three-dimensional sculpture to strengthen the experimental nature of the art game; Chien, Chih-Kang is constantly exploring the possibility of combination and application of different materials under the aesthetics of oriental culture.
