Born in Yunlin, Taiwan in 1986, Daphne H.C. Shen graduated from the University of the Arts London, Master of Fine Arts. Currently lives and works in London.

“I am an insomniac, in my work, my main concern is about myself and the thoughts. Therefore, my paintings are always focused on six main perceptions, which are Self-Portrait, Complexity of Brain, Universe, The status of Stillness, Map and Dream. For me, these topics' relationships are related to each other closely.”

Currently, her art practice is trying to develop the idea of Complexity of Brain. Through this concept, Daphne attempts to use psychological to explain it, and she sees herself as a doctor and patient in the same time, to heal herself through the monologue from the inner part. During this process, she imagines acting like a doctor to analyze and dissect her brain, and then observe it as a method, it seems like she is doing a surgery to(for) myself, the idea of surgery is also creating more space to think about the complexity.
